Shubnum is an emerging artist who works mostly in black ink and paper. Her political cartoons have been published in the South African Labour Bulletin, Al Ummah, Al Qalam, Kabobfest.com and the Mail & Guardian. She has participated in various group exhibitions at the African Art Centre in Durban. She has done illustrations for the cover and inside of Intruders by Mohale Mashigo (Pan Macmillan, 2018), We, The Scarred by Mukoma Wa Ngugi, (Paivapo, 2020), Sermons of Soul by Iman Rappetti (Pan Macmillan, 2020), Maid in SA: 30 Ways to Leave Your Madam by Zukiswa Wanner (Paivapo, 2020) and Daughters of Nandi (Paivapo, 2021). Her art deals with womanhood, transformation, identity and culture.
